I backed you guys, and am looking forward to trying out your software. I have one question. Is it possible, or will it be some day, to put more than one bone on a single image, and have the image bend to the curve of the bones? For example, a single image for the tail of a cat, then animated using more than one bone?

Wouldnt that be stretching your image? I can't imagine that would give you acceptable output for anything other than the most simple flat shapes.

This is what lattice deformers in conjunction with free-form deformation is for. Depending on how we implement free-form deformation (Should we reach that goal) is implemented, this is a possibility but I can't make any promises. It's very hard to do it right while at the same time keeping it easy to use.
I have used this feature in 3D software for 3D character animation/rigging so I know how we would do it, but at the same time it is a tremendous amount of work.

Only slightly.. In 3D software it's just a image plane, subdivided a number of times on the axis you need to bend. It's the same principles in the bending of actual 3D models to multiple bones, only used on a 2D plane.

Thanks Shiu, I hope you reach that stretch goal then. 🙂 Like you say, the hardest part is the implementation. For ease of use, something like After Effects' puppet tool implementation is maybe the way to go (although, I hate the lack of customization you get when it's that simple)

Sorry to bump this old topic, but has anything ever come of this feature? I see that the stretch goal wasn't reached for the Kickstarter, but I was hoping maybe you had plans to put it in eventually anyway. I've been researching every animation program out there trying to find just ONE that actually does this deformation, with no luck. It's the one feature I really need, since I can't figure out how to code it myself (2dtk in Unity).

Even if we didn't reach the stretch goal we might implement it later on, no promises though. If we decide to implement it it won't happen before we have gotten to everything else that is currently on our list of things to do, so it will be a while.
