It seems that the issue you're experiencing with Spine version 3.8.99 closing automatically on macOS is related to compatibility problems with newer macOS versions. Older versions of Spine, like 3.8, have been known to crash on startup due to changes in macOS. While there isn't a guaranteed solution, some users have found that avoiding other operations during Spine's startup can sometimes help it run successfully. If possible, consider using a Windows PC for older Spine versions, as they tend to run more reliably on that platform.

    Hello 🙂

I use macOS too and have no issues opening 3.8.99.
We need more information to help you.

As the thread templates state, could you share your spine.log? Here you can find more info on where to locate it.

Does the OS provide you with a crash log when the application crashes? If yes, please share it here (after removing any personal information) or by email at contact@esotericsoftware.com.

What’s your macOS version? What’s your Mac model?

What’s your Spine Launcher version? Note that I’m asking for the Launcher version, not the Editor version. The Launcher is the one you download from your license page.
If it’s not the latest version, please update it and try launching 3.8.99 again. Make sure to download the version that matches your Mac’s architecture.

Does it happen only with version 3.8.99?

Previously it was giving Times and Lucida Bright errors which were resolved after I downloaded those fonts in our mac and now even if I try to open any other version it shuts down immediately.

Davide I have sent an email on the mentioned address with all the details please help us fix this as soon as possible. Thanks.

usamaninja Thank you for providing the spine.log file. However, it appears that the forum’s automatic processing did not work as intended, and your license information remained in the attached file. I have deleted the original file and reposted only its contents.

The launcher you are using appears to be the latest version, so this may be a compatibility issue between the editor and your system environment. That said, your initial inquiry was regarding Spine 3.8.99, but the log indicates that you attempted to open Spine 3.7.94. Does the same crash occur when using version 3.7 as well?

Please also note that while your OS (macOS 15.5) is the latest version, Spine 3.7 was released when macOS 10.14 Mojave was current. As such, it is not fully guaranteed to work on recent operating systems. In particular, Spine 4.0 and later support Apple Silicon natively, whereas earlier versions require Rosetta 2. If you have not installed Rosetta 2 yet, doing so may be necessary.

usamaninja In your email, you said that the editor crashes no matter which version is used. Does it also crash with the latest version, Spine 4.3-beta?

            usamaninja

As far as I can tell from the crash report, you're running Spine_x86, but you should use the installer that matches your architecture. Are you sure you selected Apple Silicon when downloading the installer from your license page?

Misaki It worked for the first time with Spine 4.3 beta but when I tried to switch to 3.8.99 it continued shutting down again and for Davide question yes we used Apple Silicon version. We had to reset our mac to make it work now 3.8.99 spine version is now working after the reset but this isn't a permanent solution.

One of our other colleague is also facing the same issue it all started when we wanted to unpack one spine animation and it started acting weird.

Just so follow up on this. I tried launching Spine 3.8.99 with Spine launcher 4.3.01 (Apple Silicon) on macOS 15.5:

I tried with and without an external monitor and other common failure causes. Since we are unable to reproduce your issue loaclly, and since the crash log does not give us enough information, we'll need to figure out what on your system(s) is different to a standard macOS 15.5 install.

Do you have an apps installed that may interfere with other apps, like anti-virus (unlikely on macOS)?

Can you try deleting /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Spine on one of the problematic machines? Note that this will delete local settings and you will have to re-enter your activation code on first start.
