Hi there,

Exception in thread "main"

So I guess I'll need to downgrade JRE.

However, this makes me curious about what's the formal requirement of 3.8.99 regarding Java? Do you guys have a max version number?

Thanks.

Okay, forget about the previous post. Now I'm officially SCARED.

I've downgraded to a JRE from a YEAR ago, and I'm still getting that error!

Do you have an idea of why that is happening? It was fine just yesterday.

Okay, I don't think JRE has anything to do with this, not directly at least, because I've done the following and I still can't start 3.8.99:

1) Uninstalled all JRE versions (32 & 64) and Spine
2) Rebooted the computer
3) Installed both JRE 32 & 64 bit 1.8.366 version
4) Installed Spine Launcher
5) Asked to launch 3.8.99 and got the SAME error

Then I went to another computer in my home, and installed Spine there, asked to launch 3.8.99 and it downloaded and ran the thing just fine.

So, it's obviously a problem with this Windows installation, sure, but I don't know how to troubleshoot this, because that "Assistive Technology" that it not found in the log, seems to be something that was supposed to be integrated into Java already, according to what I've Googled.

I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to proceed to fix this. I'd very much like not needing to install another Windows, because if I do that I'd also need to do the same with Unity, and that would be... tricky, to say the least.

Ah, I see. Thanks, Nate.

I ended up moving my work environment to another Windows installation, because I haven't reinstalled the OS in about eight years! xD

About 4.1, I tried it recently with some a side job and it's nice, but my main project skeleton has more than 200 constraints operating at the same time, and it just exploded spectacularly when I tried to load it. The amount of time for troubleshooting and upgrading would be prohibitive at this moment, so I hope you guys maintain this version running for the years to come.

I also don't bother updating my Windows installations. With proper security, there is really no reason to do it. Check out Sledgehammer to control when Windows updates.

You will always be able to run 3.8.99, but we no longer maintain it. It was released 3 years ago. We don't do development or bug fixes on such old versions. We've done soooo many improvements since then, it's a bummer you don't get to enjoy them.

If you have a project that works differently in 4.1 than it does in 3.8, we would like to see it and fix the problems. Can you email it? contact@esotericsoftware.com We probably don't need the images.

I appreciate the offer, but the explosions happened in Unity, for the most part.

And I've spent two years building this game engine, and after eight updates adding features and solving bugs, I only want to focus on the creative side of the project, add more content on a monthly basis, and try to grow the income with that people actually want: toons screwing themselves, regardless of the tech behind it. ;-D

Thanks Nate.
