Hi there, two days ago I downloaded the latest Spine-trial, but it didn't run after installation and ends with a server-error message. I posted this as a reaction to some other people having this issue before, but so far no reaction. Today I downloaded a trial from the website again, but still the same issue.
It seems like my reaction to the other thread didn't result in people reading it, so it seems to be better to open a seperate thread here, cause I'd very much like to see the latest version in action to find out if I'm going to upgrade from an older version of Spine.

This is what I see at startup:

Running on Windows 10. I'm having an older version of Spine installed in another folder, but I only started the trial-version, so run only one instance at the time. I don't have any firewall rules blocking communication and I even temporarely disabled the complete firewall. Because other people had the exact same error-message with trials before, which was fixed in the trial later, my guess would be this is the same problem again in the trial-software rising up again. If that's the case, could this be fixed again?

Looking forward to your reaction. Thanks in advance!

Sorry you are having trouble!

There hasn't been any changes to the trial for a while, so I don't think it's a problem with the trial itself. My guess would be there is some network configuration on your end blocking Spine's communication. Posting your spine.log file might help:

Windows: <user home folder>\SpineTrial\spine.log
Mac: <user home folder>/Library/Application Support/SpineTrial/spine.log
Linux: <user home folder>/.spinetrial/spine.log

However, likely it just says the server can't be reached. The server is definitely up all the time, so something is stopped Spine from communicating. Sorry I can't be of more help!

Hi Nate, thanks for your reaction. I just tried running the trial on a different windows machine and you're right; there it runs without the server-issue.

On the first machine I now uninstalled and re-installed the latest trial again and the problem is still there. Again looking through all my firewall rules; nothing about spine or esoteric that blocks. So again disabled/pausing the firewall; still no luck.

So I looked inside the log and there is this error:

sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target

Telling me there is some problem with a certificate.
I'll include the log as an attachment.

So far without luck. I don't understand what else could be different between these two computers. They're on the same network and almost have all the exact same configurations and software installed. The only thing I can think of rightnow is maybe there is a different in Java JDE installed on one machine. But I'd say that's has nothing to do with the Spine installation, so I don't think that could cause this. Next to this: the older (bought) Spine version is running fine on both machines still. So there is some difference between the (older) official version and the trial-version...

I'm a little out of ideas now so help would be appreciated! Maybe you could read something out of the log I send you? Thanks!!

Spine uses Java, but has it bundled so it doesn't rely on any Java version that might also be installed on the computer.

The older launcher works a bit differently. I'm guessing that the latest launcher would show the same behavior, whether for the trial or full version.

Unfortunately it's really not clear why there would be a certificate problem. The certificate stuff is done the same way on every computer. It's set up specifically for Spine and shouldn't rely on other configuration on your computer. I'm at a loss as to why that error occurs. 🙁 Since it works on many other computers, there must be something relying on other configuration, somewhere. Is the date on your computer set correctly? I wish I had more that we could try, or that we could see the error on one of our computers!

Thanks for your reaction Nate. Yesterday I spend a lot of time to try other things to get the trial running on my machine but again without luck. Could't find a lot on the Java-matter via Google, and the articles and tools I did find were linking to Oracle's site and seem to be taken down or moved to other locations. This is taking me way too much time right now.

I want to make clear I never had problems with other software connecting and this is a very well serviced machine, so if the trial isn't running on my machine there's not much I can do other then checking internet-related settings like firewall rules and stuff. Which I did several times. At least I can run the trial on my other machine and that's the meaning of the trial, but I guess for now that is as far as it goes and within my reach. And it doesn't make sense to upgrade to a version that doesn't run.

Loving Spine a lot, so I'll download a new trial in a few weeks again to see if by some weird magical event things has improved, but for now I stick to the older (working) version.
