  • Full event name in Dopesheet?

Is it possible to show the full event name (including "folders") when it is keyed in the dopesheet?

We commonly have events that have the same name but are in different folders, like vfx/footstep and audio/footstep, etc, which all just show up as "footstep" in the dopesheet, making it hard to determine which one is which :detective:

The path could be pretty long. The dopesheet and graph could be smart and only show enough parent folders to make the names unique. That way most rows won't show folders, unless needed to disambiguate. We do that on the file open dialog for the project names shown there.

I worry that one or two parent folders may not give enough context in some cases, even though it results in different names. Maybe when there are multiple names, we could use the full path.

Note this also comes up for deform timelines, when different slots under the same bone have attachments with the same name, you can't tell the timelines apart.

Thanks for the response Nate!

Yeah, good point - even in my case with a single folder and relatively short names, I can see that the full path for some of them could extend beyond the given area and into the actual dopesheet.

Can't think of a catch-all solution for it that wouldn't be kinda messy. One thought would be if there was a hotkey (maybe a Function key or something) that while you hold it down, it would display the full path of the Event/Deform and just extend as far as needed into the actual dopesheet area (temporarily while you hold the key down). Definitely wouldn't be the prettiest though
